Description

Bentonite Extender is a medium molecular weight , highly anionic,acrylate based , dry Polymer. This product is supplied as fine, free-flowing granules that mix easily and hydrate rapidly in water based fluid systems.

As a Bentonite Extender in low- solids, non-dispersed drilling fluids.

Physical Properties


(1). Physical State:.......... The material shall be in the form of powder, free from visible impurities.

(2). Moisture Content at 105 ± 2 °C °C percent by mass:.................................. 10.0 (Maximum).

Performance Test:

(a) Preparation of Base Mud:
Prepare 10% (w/v) Bentonite Suspension in Distilled Water using VISION approved Bentonite by stirring with a laboratory stirrer (5000-6000 rpm) for 30 minutes. Age the suspension for 72 hours at 90± 20 C. After lapse of aging period, cool the Suspension to 24 ± 2 °C 0 C. Dilute it with Distilled Water and bring Apparent Viscosity to 7.0 ± 1.0 cP , using a Fann VG Meter or Equivalen.
Record the Apparent Viscosity (cP) of the base Mud.


(b) Performance at 24 ± 2°CC:
Divide the above base mud into two portions.
(i) Treat one portion with 0.025% (w/v) of the Sample while stirring in Hamilton Beach Mixer at high speed for 15 minutes and measure its Apparent Viscosity.
Apparent Viscosity of the treated base mud should not be less than 2.5 times the value obtained for base mud 3(a).

(ii) Treat the other portion with 0.05% (w/v)of the Sample while stirring in a Hamilton Beach Mixer at high speed for 15 minutes. and measure its Apparent Viscosity.
Apparent Viscosity of the treated base mud should not be less than 2.0 times the value obtained for base mud 3(a).


(c) Performance after Hot Rolling at 110 ±2 °C:
Hot roll the Treated Muds at 3(b) (i) and 3(b) (ii) respectively at 110 ± 2 0 Cfor 24 hours , cool and stir in Hamilton Beach Mixer at high speed for 15 minutes and measure the Apparent Viscosities ( cP) at 24 ± 20 C.
Apparent Viscosities of hot rolled, treated base muds should not be less than two times the Apparent Viscosity of the base mud 3(a) for both concentrations of extender.

Field use:
Bentonite Extender is used to increase viscocity of bentonite at the job sit. The amount of viscocity generated will depend on the amount of bentoniute and drill solids contain in thedrilling fluid.

Plant use:
Bentonite Extender usually added right before the mill to ensure proper mixing of the polymer with the proper ore. Evenly mixed ore with extender will result in meeting API specifications for minimum yield.Reguler dosage rate for this application is normally between 0.25-1.0. pound of Extender per ton of bentonite ore. Bentonite Extender Exhibits a low order of toxycity.
